Phil Mooney discoverd cycling while attending college in Indiana. While attending graduate school at UC Davis Mooney discovered that he wasn't just good, but had the makings to be professional. Mooney turned professional in 2011 and spent his first year racing all around the UK and Europe with Team Raliegh. After banging heads and handlebars around Europe Mooney joined the Team Jamis in 2012 and is currently in the second year racing professionally in the US.
Mooney talks about the misery and ecstasy of racing in Europe, what it's like to start racing later in life, and how he found his way into cycling. Mooney also discusses the injury that kept him out of the peloton for the early spring and how he's managed the mental and financial challenges a domestic professional faces when confronted with a serious injury.
