Dream Jobs for Social Impact - Career Transition

Today I will be interviewing Steven Maser. Steven has a Master’s in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Radford University, his career began in the private sector focused on sales and organizational development. After eight years of building a successful career path, which included being awarded Salesperson of the Year at Monster.com, it was time to pursue my true passion…working to try and make a difference in people’s lives. I began my journey at the Career Services Offices at Tufts University, where I led a team in developing an employer relations program. Then, Career Collaborative and I found each other. Career Collaborative’s mission is to end poverty for working-class families by helping adults get and succeed at good jobs with career potential. I now wake up everyday looking forward to the challenges of assisting low income individuals build good lives. While in the private sector I was becoming rich, I now feel that I am experiencing true wealth.

Dream Jobs for Social Impact - Education Focus

Join us as I interview Veronica Chapman, President of www.boxxout.org. Learn why and how she started her own nonprofit. Here is some background on Veronica, but you will have to tune in to learn more. It was while president of Spelman’s S.I.F.E team as a sophomore in college that Veronica discovered she had an ability and passion for helping children through the development of engaging and informative educational programs; and after losing a cousin to gun violence, her calling became clearer. Upon graduating from Spelman College she self-published The Advent of Planet Martyr: An Innovative Social Commentary, a book where she uses prose and poetry to address social issues. Included in the book is Ancestors Inc., a play Veronica wrote as a vehicle to educate Black American youth about their ancestors and how many of their ancestors used entrepreneurship to improve not only their lives, but also the lives of others. Since graduating from Babson College’s F.W. Olin School of Business, Veronica has been building her organization, Boxxout Enterprises—using out-of-the-box thinking to create and implement innovative educational programs that teach 21st Century Skills to youth residing in urban, low-income communities.
