The 2008 Children's Rodeo for Special Needs Kids

The Pendleton Round-up is one of the top three largest rodeos in the world. Cheyenne Frontier Days and Calgary Stampede are the other two. Started in 1910, The Pendleton Round-up is steeped in old west tradition. Every year, on the morning of opening day, professional cowboys who have volunteered to help, show up to take special needs kids through a "special rodeo". Events are designed especially for the children so they get a chance to rope, ride and try modified and safe events. Each child is a winner and receives a T-shirt and coloring book and bandana.
This past year, the area lost one of it's little cowboys, a little CP boy who died due to complications with pneumonia. There is a special presentation and a moment of silence planned for this year's event.
The director, Karen Parker, will join host Lon Thornburg on Monday, September 8 at 10 a.m. Pacific to share the roots of the event, some special stories and highlights to look for in this years rodeo. Join in and listen to this special edition.
