Heroin. Addition. These two words are difficult for some to comprehend, but the fact is that NJ has 8.3 heroin deaths per 100,000 citizens which is more than three times the national average of 2.6 deaths. And Ocean and Monmouth Counties made the top five list of percentages of deaths by heroin in NJ by county. The solution to this heroin addiction epidemic remains elusive, and with over 52 thousand drug related arrests in NJ in 2014 alone, we’ve got seriously overcrowded jails in the Garden State as well. One final heartbreaking statistic: just over 54% of heroin related deaths in NJ are people under 40 years old. What has to change in order to break the cycle of addition? Aaron Cole Martin, 24 years old and a former heroin and meth addict, has some thoughts on that. These days Aaron Cole is a Certified Recovery Coach for CFC – Loud N Clear Foundation. CFC (Coming Full Circle) provides services for Prevention, Intervention, and Recovery with a seamless integration of the three. They help people and their families struggling with addiction and into recovery. CFC is expanding recovery support services through mentorship, peer support, community education and outreach (including naloxone training), and programs that reduce stigma or discrimination against individuals with substance use disorders. Aaron Cole will share his own addiction and recovery story and how CFC has changed his life for the better. If you are struggling with addiction and seeking help, call CFC Loud N Clear now at 732.962.5442. After the interview, please check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.
