The Downtown All-Stars of Red Bank LLC is a collective of local musicians and performing artists bound together to raise funds and awareness for charities and worthy causes using the immeasurable power of music. Deedee Montanaro, a local performer who happens to be half of the musical group Strumberry Pie, is on the Board of Directors of The Downtown All-Stars. She joined the organization because of the musical nature and dedication to help smaller, local charities. On November 6th, The Downtown nightclub in Red Bank hosted the All-Stars CD Release Party to promote and distribute their charity CD Bright Lights on Broad Street. The net proceeds of sales and downloads will benefit Little Kids Rock, a national non-profit organization that provides free instruments and curriculum designed to foster the skills kids need to lead creative, purposeful lives. For a nominal admission fee, guests at The Downtown received a copy of the CD and got to see some of the hottest artists in the Red Bank music scene. Singer and songwriter Darren Johnson, former lead vocalist of Omega Train, came up with the idea of recording a CD and selling it to raise funds for charity. He approached his many friends who had participated in the Live Rock and Roll Karaoke on Thursday nights at The Downtown. His idea finally came to fruition and the result is the Bright Lights on Broad Street CD. Deedee was there for the big release party and will share the experience with us and tell us more about the CD and how to purchase it. After the interview, please check out After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more information.
