Even as a young boy, Joe Leone knew that his future would be in the Italian culinary field. Joe grew up watching his grandmother prepare traditional Italian meals and was baking bread when he was just 10 years old. He graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and in 1997 Joe established his Point Pleasant business in as a small bakery Italian food specialty store. As one measure of his success, bread production has increased from 140 loaves a week to more than 10,000 loaves per week. If you’ve been to Joe Leone’s, you understand why it’s known as an Italian culinary destination at the Jersey Shore. You will find the finest selection of vinegars, oils, meats, cheeses, pastas, sauces, and seasonings imported from all the unique regions of Italy. And then there is the fresh mozzarella, made by hand every morning in small batches. And let’s also mention the huge assortment of artisan breads, fresh every day from their bakery. You get the picture, right? Joe Leone has a passion for food and a commitment to culinary excellence, and this is part of the reason he has such a loyal following. Joe’s also committed to his community and frequently participates in events with local churches, non-profit organizations, schools, and other groups. This past summer, I ran into him at a Blue Claws game on Italian American Heritage Night. Joe was the Grand Marshall. Naturally. Recently, Joe had a small acting part in a movie filmed at the Jersey Shore, so we’ll hear more about that as well.
