Stephen Catania, the owner of The Cheese Cave, an artisan cheese and specialty food shop in Red Bank, has 25 years experience in the hospitality industry. He has worked at every level from line cook to Executive Chef, Restaurant General Manager to Hotel Manager, and finally as a Corporate Director of Operations. Stephen brings the wisdom of his many experiences, a passion for food, and a personal philosophy of service excellence. The Cheese Cave features some of the world's greatest cheeses and cured meats, assorted olives, roasted tomatoes and peppers, fruit preserves, chutneys, olive oils and vinegars and more. The mission of Stephen and The Cheese Cave is to promote the finest gourmet and artisan cheeses in an old-fashioned cheese shop.
Stephen gained a greater appreciation for cheese over the last 10 years. A classically-trained chef, Catania wants to educate others on the subject of cheese. Every cheese has a story and Stephen plans to share those stories in a way that will excite customers in gaining a greater appreciation of artisan cheesemaking. Catania built everything in his shop to create the feeling of an old-time fromagerie. There are shelves made from recycled barn wood to hold products like jams, oils and pastas and a butcher block countertop on which to hand-cut cheese. Inside the Cheese Cave you’ll experience the feeling of a rustic farmhouse. Friday evenings The Cheese Cave offers a cheese tasting from 5-8pm for only $5; you bring the wine and they provide the glasses. It’s a perfect way to unwind after a long week.
