Eric Eastburn, owner of Body Art World in Long Branch, makes a return visit to discuss the Visionary Arts Tattoo Festival which was held July 29-31 at Convention Hall in Asbury Park. This was the second annual Tattoo and Art Festival in Asbury Park and featured over 150 of the world’s finest tattoo artists on site tattooing all weekend. In addition to talented local tattoo artists like Eric who participated, there were artists from California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, New York, and more. This was my first time attending a tattoo convention (ok, no surprise there, right?), but I knew it would be a fascinating experience, and as a photographer, I wanted to document the process of tattooing. Most everyone who was getting their tattoo done was willing to be photographed, even those people in the most vulnerable of positions and those in obvious pain. Within two days of putting my photos on Flickr, there were 1500 views – so there is clearly tons of interest in this subject!

There were men and women of all ages giving and getting tattoos; and there were daily contests in various categories as well. I’ll let Eric explain exactly what goes on at a tattoo convention, and I’m sure he’ll want to share about his most recent tattoo he had done over the weekend. Tattoos – hey, you love them or not, but you know you’re curious about them. Think they’re not mainstream? Think again! After the interview with Eric, please check the blog -- After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live to get some additional information.
