The native of Prunedale, CA Reader redshirted at Arkansas and after one year transferred to Monterey Peninsula playing in 11 games as a freshman and throwing for 2,500 yards and 20 TDs in leading the Lobos to a 10-0 regular-season record and Coast Conference title. Reader alos earned Coast Conference Player of the Year honors and was an all-Region II choice.
 
In 2011 Reader played in 11 games and started nine ... completed 192 of 354 passes for 1,974 yards and 10 TDs ... twice completed 27 of 39 passes (vs. North Dakota and vs. Utah State) ... season high 299 yards and four TDs vs. North Dakota ... finished career eighth on Idaho’s all-time pass efficiency list (132.05) and completion percentage list (55.5) and 10th on total passing yardage (4,144).
