Jeff is a strong activist in domestic violence programs and as an investor and owner of small businesses. Not only is Jeff a successful small business man, he also has proven his commitment to human rights, working with battered women and children as a family violence counselor early in his career. In an effort to close the circle of domestic violence, Jeff saw the need to create a counseling program for men that abused their partners and spouses. The programs that Jeff established continue today and have helped create greater awareness of the issue and decrease repeat domestic violence cases. Upon moving to Charlotte, Jeff took a position with the Mecklenburg County Women’s Commission as a social worker. There, he continued to work with women and children affected by domestic violence. After his advocacy work he worked for US Air Express as a baggage handler and then went on to work for US Airways as a flight attendant. In 2004, he began his career as an entrepreneur by investing in and working at a restaurant in Charlotte. From there, he went on to invest in local restaurants and businesses, even expanding his investing to restaurants and businesses in Canada. In February of 2009, he started CDK Consulting, and now primarily works with consulting on energy and broadband. Born in 1971, Jeff Doctor is the son of Albert and Bonni Doctor. His father is a Native American of the Tonawanda Band of the Seneca tribe . Jeff spent his childhood growing up in Eden, NY, neighboring the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. After graduating high school in Eden, Jeff attended Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina where he studied music education. After a year, he transferred to Potsdam State University, again pursuing music education. Jeff was very involved at Potsdam. He joined the basketball program as a walk on and participated in such activities and organizations as the Potsdam Association of Native Americans (PANA), the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES)

    A Conversation with Nadya Kwandibens

Nadya Kwandibens is of Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) / French heritage from the Northwest Angle #37First Nation in Ontario, Canada. In 2000, Nadya began exploring photography and for several years, while working professionally in numerous forms of media including video production, and radio, has gathered the experiences necessary to easily connect one-on-one with people and groups. July of 2006 marked the beginning of her portraiture work; and since then, she has been travelling extensively, photographing for several groups, organizations, individual artists, actors, musicans and role models throughout Canada and the United States. In addition to her photographic endeavours, Nadya finds creative release through website design, traditional beadworking, music and writing. Her immediate goals include: continuing work on her series “Concrete Indians”; securing studio space & store-front for Red Works Studio; continuing to develop photography workshops that instill self-empowerment, pride and vision within Native youth; travelling across Canada to visit, interview and photograph Native elders; developing a photography/ poetry book; and exploring her music. She currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. Red Works Studio empowers contemporary Indigenous lifestyles and cultures through photographic essays, features, and portraits. We, as Indigenous people, are often portrayed in history books as Nations once great; in museums as Nations frozen stoic; in the media as Nations forever troubled. These images can be despairing; however, my goal seeks to steer the positive course. If our history is a shadow, let this moment serve as light. We are musicians, lawyers, doctors, mothers and sons. We are activists, scholars, dreamers, fathers and daughters. Let us claim ourselves now and see that we are, and will always be great, thriving, balanced civilizations capable of carrying ourselves into that bright new day.

    A Conversation with Saginaw Grant

Saginaw Grant played the character 'Freddy ManWolf' in the movie 'War Party'. At first glance, it is plain to see why so many people are fascinated with this man. Is it his spirituality? His wisdom? His dance? Of course all of the above, but when you look at Saginaw you are looking at a part of history.
