    A Conversation with Arvel Bird

Arvel studied under the great violin master, Paul Rolland for one year. "That was the most defining time of my musical career. Paul taught me so much about performing; he taught me how to relax in order to always give my best performance. He literally took me apart and put me back together again." Arvel began composing, improvising, and learning to play a variety of styles bluegrass, Celtic, folk, country and old-time music. His mix-blood heritage of Southern Paiute & Scottish is now the inspiration for most of his music and he has found a way to incorporate many facets of that ancestry into his signature musical style and stories. When you consider the popularity of movies such as "Braveheart" and "Last of the Mohicans", you'll have a pretty good understanding why his music inspires fans to feel their own connection to their American Indian and Celtic heritages. For eleven years Arvel toured with Glen Campbell, Clay Walker, Louise Mandrell, Tom T. Hall, Ray Price, Loretta Lynn and others. Now as a recording artist, he tours internationally performing his own music as a soloist or with his group, "Many Tribes, One Fire". Since 2001 he has released fourteen CDs and one DVD, which have been nominated or won awards for a number of categories in the Native American Music Awards, Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. Arvel's music is a fusion of styles - from classical to Celtic, bluegrass & jazz all which all blend together to create his unique World music sound. The more recent infusion of contemporary Native American has come about from his tapping into his Southern Paiute heritage. Each performance is a celebration of his Scottish & Southern Paiute ancestries, wihch he uses to create a true multi-cultural experience for every audience. He had the good fortune to record and collaborate with artists: Grammy nominees New Age pianist, Peter Kater, William Eaton, Mary Redhouse & Will Clipman, & Native American flutists, Joseph Firecrow & actor/singer/songwriter Irene Bedard.
