Amy Shapiro wrote a book called The Music That Gave Me a Voice. Ms. Shapiro says she wrote the book “to express to the world how music changed my life for the better.” At 3 years old doctors discovered a brain tumor which they said caused Amy’s epilepsy.  Her parents decided to remove the tumor, and since then, Shapiro says she has had a life changing experience. She has been able to access resources which have helped her succeed. Though she still has some challenges, she credits music as a way to cope and communicate.  While still in high school, she was able to help educate others, including peers with autism, on how to use music in different ways. Shapiro says she hopes her book will make a positive impact by providing hope to others.
