Dr. Stephen Mathis, aka The Rock and Roll Shrink, speaks about various topics on mental health, as well as "metal health" (Classic Rock music trivia)

Our topic tonight is Armchair Psychology, where everyday people, with no formal clinical training in mental health, often “diagnose” themselves or others based on just a couple of potential symptoms or behaviors. They react to things they read or hear about online, almost always from non-clinical or medical peer-vetted sources; and even if these sources were credible, they lack the training and acumen to interpret their relevance fully to the extent of being able to make valid diagnoses. The metaphorical armchair, of course, refers to a layperson sitting at home dispensing medical advice backed only by TV shows, magazines, books interpreted without training, or stuff on the internet.

We will discuss commonly misunderstood pathologies, as well as the psychology of amateur Diagnosticians. We would love to see you in the chat room and/or take your calls live on the air!
