For many years, we’ve been told that our biology is our destiny, that our genes rule supreme and determine our health and fate.  This has led many people to conclude that there’s not much they can do to prevent inherited diseases.  However, is this true?  Is our health forever and irrevocably prewritten in our genes?  Does lifestyle – or even other factors – play no role in health and disease prevention?  Diane Brandon is joined this week by Dr. Michael Skinner, Professor of School of Biological Sciences at Washington State University and Director of Skinner Laboratory.  Dr. Skinner is at the forefront of a new field called Epigenetics, which is shedding new and transformational light on genetics.  Epigenetics has strong implications for our health, and Dr. Skinner shares what this new field is about and what it’s teaching us.
