Narconon of Georgia

While many drug rehab statistics are nebulous, Narconon boasts a 76% success rate, based on a two year follow-up. A key to our success is the Narconon New Life Detoxification program. Through the use of a sauna, we provide body detoxification that can help eliminate or reduce cravings. Research has shown that, detoxification from drugs or alcohol should be followed by effective treatment to achieve long-term success. We provide that effective treatment. Our non-12 step approach provides life skills necessary to maintain sobriety and lead a successful life. These life skills will help the addict identify and resolve problems through learned techniques, rather than turn to drugs as they have in the past. For more information on how the Narconon program can help you or a loved one, go to www.drugsno.com or www.alternativesentence.com or call 877-413-3073.

    MEDICINE CABINET FANTASY

The fact that the admissions for prescription medication addiction barely has risen since 1997 indicates just one thing:  We are not identifying and treating enough people who are actually addicted to prescription medication.

    With the advent
of Oxycontin and the increase use of drugs such as Adderall, Methadone and Xanax, the facts are that more people are becoming addicted.  These are highly addictive drugs

An educational campaign is needed so that families and practitioners can learn the signs of prescription medication addiction so they can help their friends and loved ones.

Five percent of all individuals in addiction treatment programs are primarily addicted to prescription drugs, up from just 1 percent in 1997, HealthDay News reported March 17.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) said in its Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) 2007 report that of 1.8 million treatment admissions studied, 40 percent of patients had alcohol as their primary drug of abuse. About 16 percent were admitted for marijuana use, while 14 percent were addicted to heroin and 8 percent were addicted to methamphetamines/amphetamines.

Alcohol admissions declined from 50 percent to 40 percent between 1997 and 2007, the TEDS report noted, while admissions for marijuana and heroin have remained roughly the same in recent years.
