While many drug rehab statistics are nebulous, Narconon boasts a 76% success rate, based on a two year follow-up. A key to our success is the Narconon New Life Detoxification program. Through the use of a sauna, we provide body detoxification that can help eliminate or reduce cravings. Research has shown that, detoxification from drugs or alcohol should be followed by effective treatment to achieve long-term success. We provide that effective treatment. Our non-12 step approach provides life skills necessary to maintain sobriety and lead a successful life. These life skills will help the addict identify and resolve problems through learned techniques, rather than turn to drugs as they have in the past. FIX FOR THE FIX

Too bad there aren’t pills that can make everything all right – even drug addiction.  At every turn we are coaxed into thinking that there is a pill for every ailment.  This company was hoping that there was one for cocaine addiction.

It was doomed to fail from the beginning.   There is no pill that can remove the reasons that a person abused cocaine to begin with.   A person who is abusing cocaine is looking for a quick fix.  The solution of cocaine became the problem and this pill was supposed to be another quick fix.  It was the quick fix for the quick fix.

There are no pills that can make one decide to stop using drugs.  Only the person can decide this.  Once the decision is made they need the help of workable treatment.  However, it will always be up to the individual.

There is no pill that can develop a sense of responsibility and ethics – the necessary ingredients that must be developed in order for sobriety to be maintained – whether a person is abusing cocaine or any other drug.

    NEW YORK
(AP) -- Shares of Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners Inc. plunged Friday after the company reported an unsuccessful trial of a drug it is developing to treat cocaine addiction.

The Coral Gables, Fla., company was testing a drug called vigabatrin, or CPP-109, to see if it could help addicts stay off cocaine. But during the last two weeks of the 12-week trial, patients who used vigabatrin were not significantly more likely to remain cocaine-free than patients who took a placebo.

In morning trading, shares of Catalyst fell $1.12, or 53.3 percent, to 98 cents. The stock hit a low of 63 cents in heavy volume. Catalyst shares had traded between $1.06 and $4.52 over the past year.

In a note to clients, Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Edward Nash downgraded Catalyst shares to "Sell" from "Buy," saying he was surprised by the failure and no longer believes the company has the right opportunity or medicine to develop a treatment for addiction.

The company is continuing to analyze data from the midstage trial. While it was disappointed with the results, it has not decided whether it will continue developing the drug to treat cocaine addiction. Vigabatrin is also being tested as a treatment for addiction to methamphetamine.

The drug is sold overseas by Sanofi-Aventis under the name Sabril.

Catalyst also said it has enough funding to last through end of 2010 and complete testing of vigabatrin in methamphetamine addiction. However, Nash said the company will need to raise a significant amount of cash sooner than that.
