When I was a kid a plea of insanity was never an acceptable defense and there was nothing more therapeutic than going on a long bike ride. Nobody took Ritalin that I knew of and we were ignorant of any malady that would require it. Symptoms of attention deficit disorder were quickly remedied by a rap on the knuckles with a ruler or writing a hundred times “I will not talk in class” on the black board. In our ignorant bliss we overcame our difficulties. They were not etched heavily into our reality by our parents, teachers or by naming them ADHD or anything else.
Somehow, we got over it and I think we had a lot more fun.
