Narconon of Georgia

While many drug rehab statistics are nebulous, Narconon boasts a 76% success rate, based on a two year follow-up. A key to our success is the Narconon New Life Detoxification program. Through the use of a sauna, we provide body detoxification that can help eliminate or reduce cravings. Research has shown that, detoxification from drugs or alcohol should be followed by effective treatment to achieve long-term success. We provide that effective treatment. Our non-12 step approach provides life skills necessary to maintain sobriety and lead a successful life. These life skills will help the addict identify and resolve problems through learned techniques, rather than turn to drugs as they have in the past. For more information on how the Narconon program can help you or a loved one, go to www.drugsno.com or www.alternativesentence.com or call 877-413-3073.

    SOUND INVESTMENT

Perhaps the unspoken idea behind this massive spending on everything related to addiction, but not addiction itself is that drug rehab doesn’t work.

It is true that we need to garner our resources during these economical times and be smart about where we spend our money – ensuring that there is a return on the investment.
Effective drug treatment is the obvious best possible investment as all the other related problems would go away.

    Studies regarding what methods of
alcohol and drug treatment work should be done before large amounts of money are doled out for treatment.  Some programs work and some don’t.  Investing in programs that don’t work will foster the idea that drug treatment does not work and continue the dark ages of prison and human suffering.

    Whether a person is abusing
heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, pot or any other substance, there is drug rehab available that can work.

“The vast majority of the estimated $467.7 billion in
substance-abuse related spending by governments on substance-abuse problems went to deal with the consequences of alcohol, tobacco and other drug use, not treatment and prevention, according to a new report from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University.

The report, titled, "Shoveling Up II: The Impact of Substance Abuse on Federal, State and Local Budgets," found that 95 percent of the $373.9 billion spent by the federal government and states went to paying for the societal and personal damage caused by alcohol and other drug use; the calculation included crime, health care costs, child abuse, domestic violence, homelessness and other consequences of tobacco, alcohol and illegal and prescription drug abuse and addiction.

Just 1.9 percent went to treatment and prevention, while 0.4 percent was spent on research, 1.4 percent went towards taxation and regulation, and 0.7 percent went to interdiction.

"Such upside-down-cake public policy is unconscionable," said Joseph A. Califano, Jr., CASA's founder and chairman. "It's past time for this fiscal and human waste to end."

CASA estimated that the federal government spent $238.2 billion on substance-abuse related issues in 2005, while states spent $135.8 billion and local governments spent $93.8 billion. The report said that 58 percent of spending was for health care and 13.1 percent on justice systems.

Researchers estimated that 11.2 percent of all federal and state government spending went towards alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse and addictions and its consequences. The report said that Connecticut spent the most proportionately on prevention, treatment and research -- $10.39 of every $100 spent on addiction issues -- while New Hampshire spent the least -- 22 cents.”

    STRIVING TOWARDS PERFECTION

    NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is one of many Narconon realizations today from a Narconon drug treatment student.  It is written for anyone who likes to hear good news and especially for those who are reaching for some help with drug addiction.

“Today I realized many things while on the objectives course, including the following:

I realized how my choice of words can either build someone up or tear them down.  I have to think are my words encouraging others?  Am I doing enough to help someone else?   How many times when talking am I only saying “I” or “me”?.

I want to touché the lives of others.  First, there must be a renewal of my mind to be effective in the lives of those with whom I come in contact.

I am reminded of the following words from scripture, “ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable.”

I know that I will never be perfect and will not always do the exact right thing.  However, my motivation is to strive towards perfection while working to help all the people that cross my path.

Though perfection will not occur in this lifetime, the journey to pursue it will.  By right living, healthy eating, healthy relationships, good conversation and dreams I am getting there.

I will continue to evaluate and learn and do the best I can to make the right choices.”

Narconon is the New Life Program and there are gains to be had for anyone – whether they have abuse cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine or pot, the Narconon program can work for them.

A SIMPLE REALIZATION TOWARDS A DRUG FREE LIFE

    NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is what appears to be a very simple realization.  However, when someone is returning to a healthy life from a life of addiction, the little steps in the beginning can be very powerful.  This is what the Narconon drug treatment program is about.

“While reading the Way to Happiness, the Chapter on “Take Care of Yourself” encourages me to take care of the body that I have.  I realize that I must maintain proper hygiene by keeping my body clean, preserving my teeth, eating properly and getting rest.

While doing this simple exercise I am reminded of this code on common sense.”

Whether a person has abused cocaine, methamphetamine, pot, oxycontin or other drugs of abuse one of the things that will have to be learned or relearned is how to care for the body.  The drug addict has actually been doing the opposite – destroying the body.

At Narconon they learn to walk back up the path towards a happy and healthy life.

    METH LAB KIDS

According to an article entitled Drug Endangered Children, “A total of 3,419 children were endangered by methamphetamine production in 2003.”

The article goes on to say, ”Children living in methamphetamine labs are at an increased risk for abuse and neglect.  These children often live in deplorable conditions and face many hazards such as weapons and fire-arms, booby traps intended for authorities, vermin-infested living and play areas, and lack of heating cooling and adequate plumbing.”

Obviously most of these kids are headed for a life of trouble unless their parents get into effective drug treatment where they learn parenting skills and ethics.

The future generation of leaders needs our help in getting their addicted parents into treatment.  Whether the drug of abuse is methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin or pot, these kids deserve clean parents.

    EFFECTS OF PRENATAL METH USE

This article is not surprising, but it is frightening.  Methamphetamine is incredibly addictive.  Any pregnant woman who has abused methamphetamine, no matter their intentions should immediately get into effective drug treatment.  Good intentions and will power are often not stronger than the pull of addiction.  Good people go bad with methamphetamine and we can’t count on them to make ethical decisions.

    Pregnant mice given a single
dose of methamphetamine had babies who suffered from developmental problems and impaired motor skills, according to a University of Toronto researcher.

The Saskatoon Star Phoenix reported March 19 that researchers believe that meth use releases free radicals in the brain, which can cause a variety of damage, including to DNA. Fetal brains have less ability than adult brains to counteract free radicals, said University of Toronto researcher Peter Wells.

In mice, the harmful effects of prenatal meth use appear to be permanent. Wells said it's not clear if the animal studies can be applied to human drug use, however. "It's very difficult to know the (troubles) that meth causes in humans because there's very little documentation about what they're exposed to," he said.

HELP THE PAROLEES AND HELP THE COMMUNITY

Investing money in drug treatment for parolees will save money for the community.  If the parolees receive effective treatment, never again to return to the system, the money spent on this will be well worth it.  The whole point is that the drug treatment must be effective.  We can’t take a chance in sending the message that treatment doesn’t work so we must resort back to the prison system.

Along with the studies on how much money we will save in providing treatment, let’s do a study to isolate those programs out there that work.

With drug rehab success rates ranging from 12% to 80% we have to be sure we are really investing in treatment where we will get a return.  Let’s get behind a study to see what is really working out there.

“This report from the Justice Policy Institute shows that states could save a combined $4.1 billion by increasing the availability of parole by shifting 10 percent of the adult prison population into the parole system, and improving parole support and services so that fewer people are returned to prison for technical (rule) violations. Additionally, the report finds that community-based drug treatment provides bigger crime reduction returns than prison -- for every dollar spent on drug treatment in the community, the state receives $18 in benefits.”

GETTING THROUGH IT AND HANDLING IT

    NARCONON REALIZATION

Here is a Narconon reflection by a Narconon drug treatment student.  It is written with the hope that others will read it and reach for help.

“I found the communication course to be wonderful.  I have learned to sit comfortably without moving for a while.  I have learned to be comfortable while looking at someone.

Before Narconon I couldn’t sit still for one minute.  Narconon showed me how to control myself in any situation.  I now make the right decision and the right choices.

My mind is in the right place.  I no longer get upset, because no matter what comes my way, I can get through it, and most of all handle it.”

Whether a person has abused heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine or pot, the Narconon program can lead them down the road of a new life.  Narconon is the New Life Program.
