As the last town to be bypassed by the East/West Interstate Highway 40, Williams has managed to maintain their small town flavor while offering a memorable travel option. Most notably in this holiday season is The Polar Express, based on the animated movie of the same name. With overnight packages that include the train ride, complete with Santa Claus handing out treats for the kids, dinner, a stay at one of their fine hotels, breakfast and a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon. Fran Powers, born in Bisbee and (until recently) a life-long resident, is ready to share with listeners the haunted history of Bisbee. From the notorious Copper Queen to the not as well known Bisbee Grand, sleeping with ghosts is not a difficult find. Ms. Powers brings with her a lifetime of stories about the ghosts of Bisbee, compiled in a book named "Mi Reina, Don't Be Afraid". Chronicling her experiences as a young child and as an adult, this book is the first of its kind, published in 2003. While the majority of her experiences are personal, she has also taken part in investigations in conjunction with some paranormal research groups. Spend an hour with me and explore one of the more haunted cities in the United States. On the verge of becoming a ghost town following the closure of the mine there, the people of Bisbee found a way to revitalize themselves while still maintaining the feel of what Bisbee once was, a vital, somewhat decadent, extremely peaceful village somehow built on the side of a mountain. Bring a pad an pen with you so you might plan a haunted vacation in Bisbee, AZ, one of the last bastions of the Old West.01:00:00The Nekkid TravelernoTravel,Bisbee,Haunted,Paranormal,ArizonaBisbee's history is rich with that of mining and the rough and tumble world of the Old West. Nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina five years ago, much like the South, it rose again to be better than it ever was. Located in Biloxi, MS, on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast, Beauvoir has stood as testament to the history of Southern Pride and a man who was torn apart emotionally while our country was torn apart literally. Nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, Beauvoir has been lovingly and beautifully restored. Returned to the original colors of when it was home to the Davis Family, Beauvoir stand proud once again. In addition, descendants of the family have donated furniture and items actually used by the Davis family when they lived in the home. The site is now owned, operated and maintained by the Mississippi Division of the Sons of the Confederacy. It's with a great amount of love they do so. Given the history of the site, it's been reported by visitors and a small number of employees that the house is haunted. A photo has shown the figure of a woman standing in the window of the house, in the room that was once the bedroom of the daughter, Winnie. Could it be her? The figure in the photo certainly matches the portrait of her in the house. Are there other happenings there that defy normally rational explanation? Spend an hour with the folks at Beauvoir as we discuss the history and the haunting of an extraordinary and beautiful location located on one of the country's best kept secrets, the Mississippi Gulf Coast.01:01:00The Nekkid TravelernoTravel,Beauvoir,Paranormal,Haunted,BiloxiBeauvoir was the final home of Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy. While the number of engagements, over 2,000, was epic, it was the number of people (over 60,000) who died in the battle which changed the tide of the war, putting Gettysburg, PA, on the map and in the pages of history books. According to the website http://americancivilwar.com, "Here at Gettysburg, on July 1, 2, and 3, 1863, more men fought and died than in any other battle in American history." The belief in the paranormal world is that a violent death leaves behind the ghost of the person who died. Because of this belief, Gettysburg is often called one of the most haunted places in the country. Countless investigations seem to bear this out. Spend an hour with me as I talk to Ken, one of the guides of the Sleepy Hollow of Gettysburg Ghost Tours. Ken brings to the discussion a background as a retired NYC Fire Chief and history teacher.
