Kurt’s background spans a number of fields, including spirituality, science, literature, law and business. He was a Christian monk for 14 years, then a professional scientist in evolutionary biology at the American Museum of Natural History for 25 years, where he published widely in academic journals on evolution and tropical biology. He’s also been associated with the McGuire Center for Tropical Biology at the University of Florida. Since 2001 he’s balanced work in world religions, comparative spirituality and science.

In 2002 Kurt formed InterSpiritual Dialogue (www.isdna.org) with Catholic monk and interspiritual pioneer and author Brother Wayne Teas-dale.

In 2004 Kurt joined Brother Wayne and others as a host for interspiritual discussions at the Parliament of World Religions in Barcelona, Spain, and concerning “The Call to Interfaith Ministry” at the 2009 Parliament in Melbourne, Australia. This year, InterSpiritual Dialogue launched “The InterSpiritual Multiplex” website, The Universal Order of Sannyasa, which is an international community for spiritual life practice, sacred service and advancement of the interspiritual message which Bro. Wayne envisioned in his two classic books, The Mystic Heart: Discovering a Universal Spirituality in the World’s Religions, and A Monk in the World.
