National Association of Black Women in Construction members along with Shirley McCall and Cheryl Rogers of Transtech Academy, will discuss Industry Day  Where nearly 50 professionals will join Thursday, June 1, 2017, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., to co host with USDOT, the eight annual Industry Day in Transportation  at Cardozo High School in Washington, D.C.

A District of Columbia Public School, Cardozo is located at 2501 – 11th Street, NW, Washington, DC  20001, and its TransTech Academy has been dedicated to preparing its graduates for careers in transportation-related industries for 20 years.  Industry Day, held in collaboration with the TransTech Partners Consortium, is dedicated to building

Many of the students attending Industry Day are preparing for the future. The interaction between volunteers and students is a valuable exchange in sparking the passion and interest these young adults will need as they prepare for the world of work.  Moreover, we believe that this event will create a platform for blending resources and increasing collaboration and support among the various industry participants.

The daylong career day features a series of presentations around the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Math – S.T.E.M. – programs.  Approximately 50 employees from companies that comprise a TransTech Academy Industry Partners Consortium and other organizations participate in Industry Day.

Industry Day aims to give students exposure to careers they may have considered as well as introduce them to career choices currently not on their radar. It also shows the connection between school and real life by demonstrating how presenters used their education to achieve their goals. But most of all it provides students role models and opportunities to interact with professionals.
