Tonight's special guest is Jessica Moss from Columbus, Georgia, a new member of our NAASCA family. "I have never told my story," she says "and I think it would be a freeing experience .. and maybe it could help someone." Jessica was sexually abused and raped by her older brother from around the age of 8 to 12 years old (he was about 5 years older than her). Sexual abuse of children happens more often in familys .. parents, siblings, grand parents, uncles and extended familiys .. than in any other group. Few call it what it is, 'incest'. Jessica suffered in other ways, too. "Near the end of this time, I suffered a traumatic event leading to severe dehydration." This caused her to float in and out of consciousness for several days, unable to get up or communicate with anyone, unable to ask for water. "Soon after this, we moved to another state, and my brother went off to college, but he also tried to continue the abuse when I was 17 and ended up living with him in an apartment with my (then) boyfriend. I am 32 now, and only recently was able to fully remember the abuse and everything that happened." Many child abuse survivors experience a full or partial loss of memory about their childhood trauma. "From that time, my memory of the abuse was almost entirely repressed until the age of 29. I am slowly beginning to unpack the things that happened to me and to connect all of the dots. I don't think I could have remembered any of it, and I could never have survived it, without the help of Jesus Christ, who was always there with me at my darkest, loneliest points. This is why I want to share my story." Jessica asked us to include her email address in the bio so that people can find her in the future: jesushasalwayslovedyou@gmail.com.
