Tonight's special guest is Amber Jewell, LMSW, from Kansas, a survivor of many kinds of child abuse, neglect and hurt. She spent many years in foster care along with being in homes fueled by addictions and mental illness. Amber endured a social stigma that many at-risk kids experience as she fought the years of psychological and emotional abuse. As a young adult, Amber faced the risk of death due to long-term effects of child abuse. It was at that time that Amber really began trampling through a deep, adult process towards her own healing. But through it all, Amber has held hope in the path to creating changes, find value in those who made an impact, and change the intergenerational patterns of abuse. Now, Amber is a master level social worker. For 15 years she has worked in a variety of fields relating to foster care, education, mental health, spiritual well-being, and advocacy. She and her husband are also foster and adoptive parents. In addition, Amber is a motivational speaker who speaks with professionals who work with people who come from hard places. She currently works as a school social worker grades K-12. As an educator and an advocate for promoting change for and value within people, Amber works to inspire and motivate others to grasp their own power in the process of hope towards healing. She has a book coming out in December that talks about what lessons have taught her to make it through hard times and gives tools for others to do the same.
