Tonight's special guest is Patricia Steele from Interlochen, Michigan. As an addict, she drank to medicate the pain of life, desperately trying to numb feelings of shame and defeat. She was responsible for a car accident that took the life of another when she was forty-eight. Patty was sentenced to seven years in prison and eventually achieved recovery with the support of loved ones and friends. Patty speaks publicly of her personal involvement with active addiction along with her road to recovery. Patty hopes by sharing her story and her book, 'The Gift of Second Chances', a painful and heartfelt story which is a must read for all affected by alcoholism and addiction, others will gain a deeper understanding and insight into the disease. Her Ted Talk, The Giftof Second Chances | Patty Steele | TEDxTraverseCity, is on YouTube. Patty lives with her daughter and granddaughter. She holds a Bachelor of Science with a Minor in Addiction Studies from Western University in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She is a certified Paralegal and Victim's Advocate through Adam's University. Patty is a state-certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor and remains active in the recovery community by attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, sponsoring, and sharing her experience and hope. She is dedicated to helping addicts and their loved ones find healing and new beginnings.
