Tonight's special guest is Lakell Maxwell, an Atlanta, Georgia, native who is a child sexual abuse survivor, activist, and blogger. She is now serving as NAASCA's new Ambassador to South Carolina and we're looking forward to having her on the show for the first time. Lakell is the oldest of 4 siblings. When she was 11 years old, her stepfather molested her during a car trip to a talent agency. She says in her blog, “Being molested not only changed my life but the way I would think from that day forward.” Lakell also was deeply affected when she learned that one of her nephews had been molested for years at an early age by a babysitter. She says, “I've watched him experience the same struggles I've experienced growing up as a victim of child molestation myself. I wanted to help him now.” So Lakell made a commitment to writing and sharing the life lessons she lives through daily as a S.A.S (Sexual Abuse Survivor). No longer a victim, she now celebrates what she calls her annual “survivorversary” and encourages other survivors of child abuse to do so through her blogs, journaling classes, and open discussions. Lakell serves as a life coach and offers a number of services including her 'Listening Session with Lakell' tool which gives people feeling stressed, depressed, or overwhelmed a compassionate person to talk to. Lakell says, “My purpose here on earth is to teach love, build self and free souls through my writings. My prayer is that you leave more empowered than you showed up.” Join us to give Lakell a warm welcome to NAASCA and gain encouragement from her story!
