Tonight's special guest is David Nelson from Tennessee, child abuse survivor and author of the book "The Shade Tree Choir" which can be found at www.DavidNelsonAuthor.com. David says, "I was physically abused from age eight to seventeen by my alcoholic father. I was emotionally and physically abused by my mother my entire life." He also reveals he was sexually molested by an aunt as a small child. "Last year my book came out about these situations (except for the sexual - I just couldn't tell anyone). Funny you are one of the first to even hear that." Nelson was born and raised as one of seven children in the North End of Dubuque, Iowa, considered one of the "roughest" parts of town. His Great Grand Father was a Lutheran minister as was his grandfather and"natural" father, who David met only twice in his life. As he says, "I never knew I had a "natural" father and always considered my step-dad to be my "real dad." I still do to this day. In the 1950s, it was common to have family secrets and Ma was the master." He goes on, "I had no childhood. I was attempting to survive beginning at an early age. At age eight I promised myself that someday I'd get away and never return. I promised myself I would never be hungry or poor." Writing&nbs
