Tonight's special guest is Robin Karr from Cincinnati is an abuse survivor on many counts, in childhood, in adolescence and as an adult. She was raped at age 11, but her family didn't believe her. Robin says, "As fate would have it, I had just been to Bible camp where I rededicated my life to God just days before this happened to me. So, for my mother to tell me that God was punishing me... I don't have words for what I think about that today. When I was younger, I believed her of course. She was my mother. I carried such a burden all of life. I tried so hard to make up for being a 'bad' girl when the truth is I wasn't a bad girl at all. I'm sure this is, in part, why I've been so determined to save my children from my same fate." Yet she learned she couldn't protect them. Her oldest boy was an infant when sexually abused by his father, a basketball star in Kentucky. Fleeing in 1993, she was later to suffer the loss of her two youngest children via the family court in Texas in 1998 before they were even 1 and 2. The well-known story is here www.MothersWithoutCustodyWorld.com. Adding insult to injury, she was surgically assaulted by a Cincinnati gynecologist in 2007 (NAASCA family member Ica Iova wrote about it) and was left disabled physically and mentally traumatized. Robin says she admires what we're doing at NAASCA, writing, "Thank you for speaking out about a topic most people 'still' don't want to talk about - at least not openly."
