Tonight's special guest is Amie Moran, a sexual abuse survivor and author of the book "Behind the Quiet." Born and raised in Southern California, she grew up in a broken home and was molested by her first stepdad, who was in her life from when she was about four to twelve years old. It wasn't until she was seventeen and a freshman in college that she was able to admit what happened to her as a child. Always having difficulties verbally expressing herself, it was through her writings that the truth was able to finally come out. Amie says, "I am a sexual abuse survivor. It took many years before I was able to say that, and many more years before I could openly discuss being molested with my family and friends. Through therapy, I discovered how much being abused affected the way I saw and interacted with the world around me. Quiet often, I have difficulties vocalizing my thoughts, so instead, I write." As she began to share her writings, she realized that she wasn't alone in her feelings and struggles. In an effort to help others, Amie has published her writings in a book entitled "Behind the Quiet." By sharing her personal thoughts, she hopes to show others that they are not alone, they are understood and they too can heal. For information about how to get her book, Amie can be reached at Behind_the_quiet@yahoo.com
