Host Jennifer Hawks takes My Yukon Life listeners on location to Faro, Yukon for the annual Sheep & Crane Viewing Festival. Jennifer will capture the highlights of the three day event, which will include local music, a wild game BBQ, and fireside presentations. Sightings of migrating Sandhill Cranes riding thermals overhead and Fannin’s sheep on nearby mountainsides will be captured on video and made available to listeners on YouTube. Faro is home to 400 citizens, a town that was named after the card game. When the Faro mine was operating at its peak, the population was just under 2,000. When ore prices dropped in 1985, Faro’s population dipped to 97. The mine is now closed and Faro’s economy is primarily dependent on tourism. Take a virtual trip to Faro with your host, Jennifer Hawks.
