    Date / Time:

Episode 3 Recap -- Late Start, First Caller

Episode 3 -- Who Wants to Be Upper Middle Class? started two minutes late due to a circuit overload, I guess. Good to see that the switchboard at BlogTalkRadio is so busy. That's a good sign. A very good sign.

Once on the air, though, we jumped on the drop in oil prices, attributing the $20 decline to more than just supply and demand. If speculators are driving it up every time an Iranian sneezes, why aren't they also bringing it down given all the peace ovetures (troop withdrawals, meetings with Iran, etc.)? Which is what led us to the myth of supply and demand, not only on economic and theoretical bases, but on every day speculators who treat the market like roulette at a backroom casino.

I got my first call ever from Tom in Maine, asking about the Peak Oil theory. We both agree that it's already here or will be soon. Check out his show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/tomin08 (I think!). Thanks, Tom!

Then we jumped into why a college degree no longer means a good living. It's been a long time coming, but finally the numbers back it. Get a Master's or a Ph.D. if you want to live the good life. A B.A. is B.S. when it comes to keeping up with inflation. That led us to play the game Who Wants to Be Upper Middle Class? where a million dollars no longer buys what it used to. What does it buy? Listen and find out!

We debuted a semi-regular segment, Blonde Moments in Politics, named for Ann Coulter, but naming Michael Savage (nee Weiner) for his comments about autistic children. Moron.

and finally, of course, we named our Honor and Dishonor Roll winners, with honorable mention going to Judge Keith Allred for his pre-trial ruling in the Salim Hamdan case, and winning the top award -- and I can't believe I'm writing this -- George W. Bush, for making diplomatic overtures toward Iran. Hey, if he's willing to lean in Barack Obama's direction, I have to give it to him. It's as unexpected as his winning. Dishonorable mention went to Jesse Jackson for his use of the N-word in his now-famous whispered tirade, but the big loser was Fox News, for withholding the clip in the first place. Hey, Fox, there's another N-word -- news. Next time, air the damn tape and don't milk the story.

See you next Tuesday at 11pm when we'll discuss all these flip-flop charges and the housing crisis, plus update the Rolls. Thanks for listening (and reading)!
