HUMAN SIN AND NEED :

1.  The Mission of Jesus is to proclaim in word  and deed the coming of God' Kingdom.  the establishment of God's Rule is seen as the overcoming and defeat of Satan, resulting in the deliverance of those he has held captive. whether through demon possession, illness or sin, or through social marginalization resulting from the misuse of Power.

2.  It thrusts Jesus into opposition against those whose activities contribute to an unjust and noncompassionate society.  he speaks out strongly condemning the leaders in Jewish society for failing to care for the people.

3.  The Message Of Jesus and discipleship : In Mark, the proclamation of the kingdom of god is characterized as gospel or good news.  it brings healing to the ill and the disabled, delivers people from Satan and the demons and offers forgiveness to sinners.

4.  it also leads to a fresh statement on how life should be lived. Response to it is understood in terms of repentance and faith, but most weight is placed on discipleship as personal, active, self-denying commitment to Jesus and the gospel.

5.  The terms "eternal life" and "being saved" are also employed to signify the benefits that come to those who are disciples.

6.  Essentially the same picture is presented in Matthew, but the nature of the new life is spelled out in greater detail, and there is fuller recognition that a new community life will develop among followers of Jesus.

7.  In Luke, there is more emphasis on salvation and the benefits of discipleship, sufficiently so to justify the view that this is a major motif for him.
