Shirazette Tinnin was born in North Carolina to parents in Gospel groups. From 4, she loved drums. She studied with Cindy Blackman, Lewis Nash, Terri Lynne Carrington, Allison Miller, Sherrie Maricle, and Ernie Adams. She received a Music Industry Studies degree; recorded Stories of This Land with Sinclair; earned jazz scholarships and an athletic scholarship. At Northern Illinois University, she had scholarship for drum set and jazz pedagogy and studied with saxophonist Ron Carter in Chicago. She performed with flutist Nicole Mitchell for NIU in Liberace Jazztet Scholarship Program. She is one of last recipients of The Sisters in Jazz Collegiate All-Stars for IAJE Award (2008) and taught at Columbia College in Chicago. She performed with Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, and Renee Baker and toured Spain and Peru, where she discovered Cajon and wrote a song on The Liberace Jazztet release Equity. She moved to New York in 2009, and is the drummer at Tutuma Social Club with Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet. She was with Alicia Keys on BET in Black Girl's Rock (2012). She toured with Tia Fuller at Umbria Jazz Festival, Molde Jazz Festival, and Turkish Ambassadors in D.C., and leads  Shirazette Experiment Core-Tet in New York and overseas. She performs with WuTang Klan, Diva, Tom Browne, Hugh Masekala, Mimi Jones, Pauline Jean, Afrikkanitha, and Camille Thurman. She is a clinician and teacher, and authored two articles for Modern Drummer and Tom Tom Magazine on musicians and health.
