Karen Briggs was born in New York . When her family moved to Portsmouth, VA, she started on violin at 11, at junior high school. With strong family music influences, Karen experimented with the violin, outside of it's traditional expectations and became a unique, feature-talent at weddings, jazz and church concerts. She performed with The Virginia Symphony and was a full-time, Music Media major. Karen's four-decade career spans through several genres including an eclectic range of Orchestral, Gospel, Funk, R&B, Latin, New Age, Rock, Hip Hop, and Jazz. Karen was an artist-in-residency at: Berklee Music College, The Kennedy Center, and The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts. Karen has been an inspiration to many aspiring musicians. After a four-time winning streak from Amateur Night at the Apollo, she moved to Los Angeles, where she performed on the Latin music scene. In 1990, she made her first major tour with British R&B sensation, Soul ll Soul (Back to Life) with a trio of dancing violinists. In 1991, she joined Yanni's string band as "The lady in red". Her fiery violin solo on the PBS special "Yanni: Live at the Acropolis" was viewed in 65 countries, by over 500 million people. Currently, she performs with Jazz in Pink. Her CD, Soulchestral Groove released in 2009.
