Paula Atherton was born and raised in NY.  She studied saxophone with Lee Konitz, Sal Mosca, Bob Mintzer (improvising), Liz Gorrill add Gerry Janssen (vocal improvising and voice), Jim Mc Neeley and Enos Payne (piano and composition). Paula shared the stage with The Rippingtons, Nick Colionne, Chuck Loeb, Cindy Bradley, Gail Jhonson, Karen Briggs, Althea Renee, Matt Marshak, Four80East, Chieli Minucci and Shilts.  She worked at the Blue Note NYC with pianist and jazz legend, Hank Jones for a week.  Her current release Enjoy the Ride has guests Nick Colionne and Cindy Bradley.  The first single Sassy Strut, featuring Nick Colionne, was on Billboard’s Smooth Jazz chart for 15 weeks, and reached #15.  The second single Herbie was on Billboard’s chart for 7 weeks, reaching #22.  Her 2009 release Groove With Me featured Chieli Minucci, Greg Adams, and Onaje Allan Gumbs. Artists Music Guild (AMG) nominated Paula as Artist and Female Vocalist of the Year. Groove With Me was Album of the Year and Send Down An Angel, which reached #9 on FMQB’s Adult Contemporary chart with 899 spins, was Song of the Year.  Paula played the Berks Jazz Fest in 2014, with Project 222, in 2012 with Jazz in Pink.  Other 2014 dates include Jazz at Jack’s (6/21), Spaghettini’s (8/16), Detroit (8/24), New Brunswick Jazz Fest (11/9), and Home in CT (10/18).
