Lauren Sevian is from Miller Place, NY. Since 12, she has performed on piano and sax. At 16, she won the Count Basie Invitational soloing competition and was featured with the Basie Band. By 17, she performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Village Vanguard. In 1997, Lauren attended Manhattan School of Music.  In her senior year, she toured with Diva Big Band. She received a B.A. in Music in 2001.  In 2003, she joined the Mingus Big Band. She was in Mona Lisa Smile with Julia Roberts. Recordings: with Greg Osby on Breakfast in Bed, Epitaph with Mingus Epitaph Orchestra. In 2007, she joined the Litchfield Jazz Camp faculty as a teaching artist; in 2008 she performed at Monterey Jazz Festival’s Next Generation Festival with Christian McBride, Terry-Lynn Carrington, George Duke, Billy Harper, and Ron Westray. She toured with Rescue Me Comedy Tour with Dennis Leary and is in the Comedy Central special Douchebags & Donuts. In 2009, she was in Ireland with Nikki Iles Quintet at Guinness Cork Jazz Festival. She toured France with Black Rock Coalition Orchestra led by Tamar-kali. She performed with Jane Monheit and Ladies of Jazz and with Christian McBride’s Big Band with Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley. She was nominated (2008-present) for Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star baritone saxophone, SESAC award for and a Grammy for the Mingus Big Band’s Live at the Jazz Standard (2011). Lauren leads Eb Quartet and LSQ that released Blueprint (2008). Lauren is a teacher, clinician, conductor, and adjudicator.
