Estrella Cristina was born in Sacramento and grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico and in Nebraska. She began playing violin at 6, and trained operatically, for a few years. She auditioned for many musicals, before choosing the singer/songwriter route. After graduating from Cornell University in Textile and Apparel Design, Estrella headed back to California to pursue her goals in the music industry. She signed on as the fourth member of VIP, an R&B group under consideration by J Records. After a series of showcases, Estrella focused her own pop/rock sound, studying the guitar with Frank Coglitore, who enabled her to start writing songs.
Her debut EP, This is Life is available on iTunes and the CD, Happily Ever After features her song “Brighter Than Sunshine”. Her CD contains collaborations with bassist Coglitore, drummer Craig Macintyre, guitarist Lance Konnerth and singer-songwriters Lane Lenhart and Greg Haptor. Coglitore produced “Brighter Than Sunshine,” while Haptor and Lenhart led the session “Nonstop” penned with Lenhart. “In Between Days” was produced by MTV producer Jeffery David and his team. Working with promoter Jennifer Lyneis of UE3 Promotions, Estrella booked gigs for the summer and on TV and film licensing and endorsement deals.
