Formed in 2014 by Texas-natives David Monnich (Bass, Guitar, Vocals) and Jimi Morales (Keyboards, Vocals), The Dank have grown and  performed throughout the pacific coast of the United States and Mexico, including stops at Lightning In A Bottle Festival (Bradley, CA), Desertica Festival (Mexicali, MX), the Instituto Cultural De Baja California (Tijuana, MX), Día De Muertos Festival (Mexicali, MX), Zentrro Underground (Guadalajara, MX), Fiestas Patrias (Los Angeles), and Fiesta Broadway (Los Angeles). In 2015, the band was honored by Los Angeles city council member Jose Huizar for their contributions and commitment to the culture of Los Angeles. In April 2017, The Dank produced a benefit concert in Tijuana, MX called Border Aid, which raised funds for la Casa Del Migrante. The Dank’s newest release, their self-titled debut album, was released on December 1, 2017 and is the result of David Monnich and Jimi Morales’ experiences living and traveling in the southwestern and pacific coast regions of the United States as well as Mexico over the past five years. The songs tell stories of communal feasts, homelessness, homesickness, narcotraficantes, treachery, and Texas rangers.  One of LA's most crative and energetic ALM bands. 01:01:00MusicaLAnoTex Mex,Rock music, rock and rool,Mexico,Californiagreat band. gret talk. great fun0c9b901d-c50d-45f7-a5a3-c36ecbf88faf143fullBest Live Band in LA? Teamed up with Cosmica Artists Management group and Monterey Int. Booking Agency, the future looks auspicious for these young and determined “chunsters” who doggedly strive to perfect their hypnotic yet invigorating act -- which includes an intertextual take on Nirvana's “Love Buzz” and a punk cover of Selena’s “Baila Esta Cumbia”-- to disseminate the perfect pastiche that is psychedelic cumbia punk.  01:00:00MusicaLAnopunk,punk rock,Punk Rock Music,Psychedelic Rock, cumbiaSince banding together in 2012, psychedelic cumbia-punk trio Thee Commons have made waves far beyond their hometown of East LA. La Misa Negra has toured the country, sharing stages and festival bills with the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz, Thievery Corporation, Mon Laferte, Julieta Venegas, and Ozomatli. They have gained a reputation as one of the most exciting live bands to emerge from the Bay Area in recent years, with a diverse fan base that transcends musical, cultural, and generational divides. Surrounding herself with top LA talent, The Wild Clams are a massive band, at some points up to 16 pieces, that reflect Cecilia’s passion, flamboyance, and the many elements that influence her music from salsa and soul to jazz, funk, and afro-cuban. Her most recent album, Havana Rocks, is the best example of this - an ambitious genre-bending project that took Cecilia to Havana to record MTV-era hits like “Whip It” and “I Touch Myself” and eventually earned Cecilia the Cubadisco International Award 2015, the first American album to win after the embargo.  The album paired Cecilia with some of that country’s top musicians including Cubadisco Award winning tres player – San Miguel Perez. 01:00:00MusicaLAnoSalsa,Latino music,Latin rock,Dance music,Los Angelesnone needed. its a reruna1b25b72-7693-4d17-8745-567ded68959cBob Boo Bernstein. Pedal steel guitarist and proud member of LA Latino musicBob Bernstein is an unlikely member of the Los Angeles Latino fusion music community.  He has been playing music since he was 10 years old and fell so much in love with the sound of a pedal steel guitar that he saved up his allowance and bought one while he was in high school;  the rest is history.  That history includes winning an Oscar for Best Original Score on Brokeback Mountain, working with Hans Zimmer on the Man of Steel, live and recorded performances with Freddy Fender, Tanya Tucker, Jerry Lee Lewis, Emmylou Harris, Mark Chesnutt, Dwight Yoakum, Michelle Shocked, Curt Kirkwood from the Meat Puppets, Erasure, Gatemouth Brown, and Hank Thompson. But he is particularly proud of his Latino music. For the last 5 years  he has  toured and recorded with Mexican superstar Joan Sebastian and has contributed pedal steel chords to recordings by other popular Latin artists including Juanes, Vicente Fernandez, Jenni Rivera, Lucero,  La Santa Cecilia, Ulli and the Mexicans. He says that his work with Latino artists makes him especially happy because he feels he has helped break down musical borders and introduce the pedal steel to a whole new audience. 01:01:00MusicaLAnopedal steel guitar, country western,Mexican music,Latin music,Latino musicprobably the only Jewish, Oscar-winning pedal steel playing Latino musician. Growing up, Vallejo felt drawn to music:  “I was the kid who every time I went to a friend’s house, if they had a piano, I would sit and noodle around on it.” Vallejo chose to master the violin for one very practical reason. “I picked it for its size, and I don’t regret that decision,” she says with a laugh. “I really enjoy being able to go almost anywhere with it. With a violin, you can combine it with a lot of different instruments.” She uses that violin in Mariachi bands playing with artists like Nancy Sanchez, and  she has performed Andean,  Chinese and bluegrass music and studied Mariachi in Cuba, Spain and Ecuador as well as Mexico. 01:00:00MusicaLAnomariachi,Mexico,Girls who rock,Latina who rock,Mariachi musicEthno musicology professor Messie Vallejo plays in Mariachi bands and has studied it from Mexico to Spain to Cuba80828f42-6c4f-471d-a02d-9be139a41394138fullLysa Flores. modern fusion rock at its best and a fighter against domestic abusehttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/10/18/lysa-flores-modern-fusion-rock-at-its-best-and-a-fighter-against-domestic-abuseMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/10/18/lysa-flores-modern-fusion-rock-at-its-best-and-a-fighter-against-domestic-abuse/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/10/18/lysa-flores-modern-fusion-rock-at-its-best-and-a-fighter-against-domestic-abuseWed, 18 Oct 2017 20:00:00 GMTLysa Flores. modern fusion rock at its best and a fighter against domestic abuseLysa Flores was a been a pioneer in LA’s East Los alternative scene as a teenager with talent in music, acting, and activism.  A first generation Mexican-American who was  named by Newsweek as one of “20 young Latinos to watch in the new millennium”, Flores started her own record  label in 1998 developing a unique style that fuses musical genres like her current use of Taiko drums, rock music and ballads. Born in Toluca, Mexico, Sanchez  immigrated to the United States with her family as a young girl.  Music was part of her childhood, and it wasn’t long before she was writing music.  One of the first songs she remembers writing was “La Bandera de los Estados Unidos” about the U.S. flag during a two-day bus trip to San Diego. Growing up, Sanchez spent her formative years in Anaheim’s exploding Latin community, playing with a local Mariachi academy and honing her musical skills. Later, she discovered the world of jazz, a genre she would fall in love and distinguish herself with performing monthly at Steamer’s Jazz Club in Fullerton.  That turned out to be a wise decision as Sanchez has now won the  Orange County Music Award for Best Latin and Best Jazz three times. Her newest full-length album, American Novio  is a departure from her jazz trajectory;  it is all in Spanish and it is high tempo Latino pop-oriented. English or Spanish she gets the message across with a great new beat. 01:00:00MusicaLAnoLatina,Mexico,Latino music,Spanish, popJust nominated for Best Latin Artist/band, Female by the LA Music sCritic,Nancy releases all Spanish album and we have it.Carla Sariñana talks to us between shows about the Silver Rose Project.http://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/07/12/carla-sariana-talks-to-us-between-shows-about-the-silver-rose-project-1Musichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/07/12/carla-sariana-talks-to-us-between-shows-about-the-silver-rose-project-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2017/07/12/carla-sariana-talks-to-us-between-shows-about-the-silver-rose-project-1Wed, 12 Jul 2017 20:00:00 GMTCarla Sariñana talks to us between shows about the Silver Rose Project.During the Spring and Summer months of 2015, Carla Sariñana spent 6 months living in Los Angeles. Brainstory joins usBrainstory is a power trio hailing from the dusty fields of San Bernardino California  that pairs jazz, psychedelia, and soul to create a unique sound that is a vehicle for musical and spiritual expansion. The band consists of Martin brothers Kevin (guitar, vocals) and Tony (bass, vocals) with Eric Hagstrom on drums. All three were musically spawned from their fathers: Tony and Kevin grew up listening to their father sing the gospel every Sunday while Eric was raised on his own dad's massively epic album collection. The three met and played locally as a jazz trio for years when everyone else was dong rock and punk until 2014, the year they electrified and became Brainstory. It wasn't long before their original works caught on with audiences beyond their beloved San Bernardino and broke fresh new ground in the Los Angeles area. The group found that audiences loved the fresh sound and intuitive improvisational aspects of their recordings and high energy live shows. With their newest self-titled "mini-album" produced by Chicano Batman's Eduardo Arenas, they forge a new path towards even more progressive and soulful sounds. The record is nuanced with accents of stylings from Shuggie Otis, The Beach Boys, and Herbie Hancock.  When they aren't playing under their own name, they all stay busy collaborating and performing with the likes of members of Chicano Batman, Rudy De Anda, Kimbra and other heavy hitters from the LA music scene. As a band they've shared the stage with Kamasi Washington, Chicano Batman, Helado Negro, Mild High Club, La Luz, Sheila E, and many others. Brainstory lives on as a force of funky soulful jazz sounds that take the listener to a place of expansion, a place of dancing, liberation, and love. 01:00:00MusicaLAnojazz,soul music,FUNK MUSIC,Psychedelic Rock,Latinoamazing what can come out of a dustry Latino farm town in south east CA. Their name comes from the Spanish madrileños –  slang for cats, mixing their Spanish-Mexican-British heritage. Jenny began playing the trumpet at aged 7 and writing songs at 15 as she taught herself the guitar. The band began as Zoot and Princess in 2008  when Jenny moved to Spain after being invited by double bass player Icho, whom she had met earlier. Icho added flamenco guitarist Pantera (who also played rockabilly) and Spanish cajon player David – thus Jenny and the Mexicats was born. Their first album, Jenny and the Mexicats produced in English and Spanish,  went gold. Their second album Ome, jammed with high–energy dance tunes, was used in the soundtrack of Manolo Caro film  Love of My Loves. The band is currently based in Spain and Mexico City and is now on a world tour with stops in Colorado, Texas, Washington State and Mexico.  No LA dates have been announced, but we will ask.   01:00:00MusicaLAnoSpain,Mexico,Mexican music, rocakabily, jazzJenny Ball and her band went gold with the first album of their combo of Flamenco, Rockabilly, jazz, cumbia and wht ever else they can write and sing with a truMITRE IS NOW A DUO WITH ANDIE SANDOVAL. Pure electricity with a psychedelic African beat.La Chamba is an old school/new sound band based in east Los Angeles that pumps out hard rockin’ psychedelia with Afro-Latin rhythms, amplifying their reality and that of their audiences Their electrifying blend of  music fuses 60's psychedelic-inspired surf-pop from Peru with Afro-Latin beat energy. Arising from humble beginnings in East and South Central LA, they adopted the name “Chamba”, which  literally means “work,” and a word used throughout the barrios of Latin America to describe the hustle of the street. Their sound pays homage to the melodies and grooves of Peruvian Chicha music popular among the working-classes of Lima and the Amazon. True to their roots, La Chamba’s audience is as much a part of their performance as the band. The trio takes a very respectful contemporary approach to traditional Mariachi. They write music that engage audiences with the lively joy of traditional Mariachi but which is uniquely modern and uniquely theirs.  The band’s goal is to keep the traditional Mariachi songs alive while bringing in new, younger audiences. As part of this they have joined the musical protest movement My Song is a Weapon, started to combat racism by supergroup Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello and singer Jackson Browne.  Their original song “Mi Hermano" , included on the compilation album Monster Protest Jamz, vol 1,  was designed to correct the false image of  Latino communities fostered during the election. They write songs that, Rodriguez describes as: "…talking about combating injustices — racial injustices”  which help bring the Latino community together.  La Victoria plays venues throughout Los Angeles, including a residency at  Las Perlas, in Downtown Los Angeles, bringing their passion for Mariachi tradition together with their love of their home city and its vibrant music. 01:00:00MusicaLAnomariachi,Los Angeles,Mexico, trad music,Mexican musicA LA-based trio of Mariachi musicians who wsrite and perform songs that respect the tradition of Mariachi, but make it relevant for today's fans and politicsAngélica Rahe: Flamenco fire from a Double Platinum artisthttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/09/anglica-rahe-flamenco-fire-from-a-double-platinum-artist-1Musichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/09/anglica-rahe-flamenco-fire-from-a-double-platinum-artist-1/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/09/anglica-rahe-flamenco-fire-from-a-double-platinum-artist-1Wed, 09 Nov 2016 23:00:00 GMTAngélica Rahe: Flamenco fire from a Double Platinum artistAngélica Rahe combines soulful, soaring vocals, a fiery Spanish guitar, and bilingual compositions that mix her Spanish gypsy roots with American Pop and Soul. She is a Double Platinum songwriter who truly embodies what it means to be a “world artist.” Having grown up traveling the world, from a young age she was able to capture how powerful music was in unifying people from all walks of life. Angélica spent her childhood between Japan and her native Spain, so it’s no surprise that this experience has influenced her sound. At 5 she was playing Flamenco percussion with gypsies in the alleyways of Andalucía; by 14 she was writing her own songs; soon after she began to teach herself to play guitar, using old Joan Manuel Serrat, Tom Jobim, and Lightnin’ Hopkins’ records as inspiration. She has now shifted focus on her very own artist debut, showcasing her Soul and Flamenco roots in a Pop-driven, "Spanglish" representation of the "hybrid-child" experience, inspired by her bicultural background and extensive travels, and set to release early next year. 01:00:00MusicaLAnoSpain,Gypsy,SpanEnglish,girls with guitar, girls rockmoving from songwriting to singing, Angelica Rahe will be showcased at the Gypset Latin GrammysJazz singer Nancy Sanchez flirts with pop in new albumhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/02/jazz-singer-nancy-sanchez-flirts-with-pop-in-new-albumMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/02/jazz-singer-nancy-sanchez-flirts-with-pop-in-new-album/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/11/02/jazz-singer-nancy-sanchez-flirts-with-pop-in-new-albumWed, 02 Nov 2016 20:00:00 GMTJazz singer Nancy Sanchez flirts with pop in new albumNancy Sanchez is a natural musician, songwriter and artist. (“machine”) believes in human dignity and social justice and delivers that message in its music.  That music is crafted by the founders,  two formally trained Chican@ musicians, Alexandro D. Hernández Guitérrez and Cat M. They create music that speaks of wounds, of open gaps between physical spaces, like the US-Mexico border, or the distance between loneliness and feeling loved. With a sound that is at once pegajoso (“sticky”) and penetrating, that mixes post-punk with the ethereal in both recordings and its jubilant live performances. As young Chicanos, the two founders/bandmates understand what it’s like to feel in-between: English and Spanish, California and Mexico, and friends and family. Guitarist  Guitérrez defines himself as a “Tejano-Fronterizo Michoacano San Quilmense Angelino born in Chinatown” and raised in Del Rio, Texas. His exquisite beats are pan-African but combine traditional Mexican styles with progressive rock. Vocalist and guitarist Cat M. brings a feminist cry to the group’s sound, but unlike the wail of her punk foremothers, Cat’s voice is unabashedly feminine, with a strong underpinning of alto resolve. The band is rounded out with Rupestre on bass, synth and vocals.  Their first album Huastech 3000 will be released the day of the interview and we will be the first to play it on the radio.   01:01:00MusicaLAnoMexico,Mexican music, rock, jarana, synth¡Aparato! is a post-punk(y), socially conscious, electronic rock band from LA that performs with traditional Mexican@ instruments and beats with a message of huGaby Moreno with her two new singles, food talk and upcoming albumhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/08/17/gaby-moreno-with-her-two-new-singles-food-talk-and-upcoming-albumMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/08/17/gaby-moreno-with-her-two-new-singles-food-talk-and-upcoming-album/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/08/17/gaby-moreno-with-her-two-new-singles-food-talk-and-upcoming-albumWed, 17 Aug 2016 20:00:00 GMTGaby Moreno with her two new singles, food talk and upcoming albumGaby Moreno won the 2013 Latin Grammy for Best New Artist and never looked back.  Singing since she was a child, the Guatemala-born musician has honed the blues, jazz soul and R&B  in both English and Spanish to a fine edge, and sung in musicals and movie soundtracks.  She excites crowds regardless of language, touring both north and south of the border.  Gaby’s 2012 world tour reached a million people. His music is a perfect blend of tango, pop, traditional Mexican music, rock, blues and sounds from around the world. With a wide-ranging operatic voice and a powerful sense of rhythm he easily blends the heartbreaking Mexican corridor with the beats of LA.   Mitre’s  first record  was released in 2010 under the name "Fugitivo" (Fugitive) to his fan base in Peru, Colombia, Venezuela and Italy. He was named Favorite Artist by Italian Radio FM in 2011, after being one of the most played artists on the air.  But the lure of world’s largest music market beckoned from across the Atlantic and the following year he moved to Texas to continue writing and producing at the renowned Sonic Ranch Studios, the world’s largest music production studio. He went on to perform in Europe and the USA, including the BMI Summer Stage in NY, the LAMC,  the official ceremony of Mexican Independence in Paris, France, and the BMI American Latino Music showcase at the Gibson Showroom in Beverly Hills, California.   Skilled in collaboration from his work as a music producer, Mitre has worked with the who’s who of ALM artists in LA including, Irene Diaz, Monica Velez, Pedro Dabdoub, Ximena Muñoz, David Garza, Jaime Kohen, Margaret Cho, Iñaki Vazquez, Gaby de K, and Kalimba.   00:30:00MusicaLAnofusion music, rock music,Mexico,Italy,Los AngelesMexican-born, Italian trained, LA-based fusion singer/songwriter/produce Mitre' joins us on our inaugural broadcastFormer The Voice and Telemundo star Cáthia visits MúsicaLA with fusion beatshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/05/13/former-the-voice-and-telemundo-star-cthia-visits-msicala-with-fusion-beatsMusichttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/05/13/former-the-voice-and-telemundo-star-cthia-visits-msicala-with-fusion-beats/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/musicala/2016/05/13/former-the-voice-and-telemundo-star-cthia-visits-msicala-with-fusion-beatsFri, 13 May 2016 20:30:00 GMTFormer The Voice and Telemundo star Cáthia visits MúsicaLA with fusion beatsCáthia is a fast rising fusion musical artist who has been singing since childhood in her hometown of the Bronx, NY.
