Greetings, Beloved Friends. As I know many of you are aware, there are powerful evolutionary forces at work on our planet. These evolutionary forces are producing the necessary contrast to cause each of us to rise to higher levels of Self Mastery. In the face of great contrast, we have a unique opportunity to truly practice that which we know at a higher level.
During recent weeks, I've heard many people express concern about their own personal situations and the contrasts that are giving rise to their evolution. Some of you have talked to me about finances and money, others about health concerns, and others about emotional upheaval or desires for major life changes. It is extremely important for each of us to keep things in perspective and not get caught up in the frenzy of mass consciousness which may lead us into fear over the global economy, gas shortages, and prophecies of cataclysmic Earth disasters. The Awake person is aware that certain collective ways of thinking may cloud our own mental perceptions if we are not vigilant. Every minute of our lives provides an important opportunity for us to grow as human beings and to transcend the limitations of mass consciousness.
We must remember that the mind is a tool which the Self uses to perceive and respond to the world and is not to be confused with the Self - the Ultimate Observer. Just like our physical body is a vehicle that allows the Self to act on a physical level, the mind is a vessel that enables the Self to function on the mental planes. The body has physical limitations, and the mind has mental limitations. Just as we exercise the physical body to increase its strength, so must we exercise the mind to surpass its limitations.
The mind is like a window which provides us with a particular view of the world. While the window allows us to observe, the window also limits our perspective in accordance with its orientation. When we look out a window to the east, our views of the south, west and north are limited or nonexistent. The window establishes a boundary on our perception and gives us only a partial experience of what is actually "out there." In the esoteric traditions of the East and West, the mind is often called the "creator of illusion" because it gives us a distorted, partial perspective of reality. Just like the window, the mind is limited by its "orientation" which is determined by its thoughts, belief systems and past conditioning. When we expand our consciousness, we transcend the limitations of our present perspective and have the opportunity to experience our own greatness and the greatness of All That Is.
The limitations of our mind's ability to perceive the Totality of All That Is is represented by the well-known centuries-old story of the five blind men and the elephant which comes to us from the Eastern Tradition. In the story, five blind men are wandering through the city streets and happen upon an elephant keeper and his elephant:
"What is this beast?" asked the first blind man, who bumped into the elephant's side.
"That is an elephant." said the elephant keeper.
"That's absolutely amazing! I've heard of elephants, and I've always wondered what elephants are like!" said the blind man, running his hands along the elephant's broad torso. "The elephant is just like a wall - a living, breathing wall!"
"Whatever do you mean?" said the second blind man, who reached out and encountered the elephant's enormous towering leg. "The elephant doesn't feel like a wall at all. The elephant is exactly like a tree - a gigantic steadfast tree!"
"Nonsense! What are you talking about?" said the third blind man, as he petted the elephant's trunk. "The elephant is like a snake!"
"You three are all idiots!" said the fourth blind man as he touched the elephant's whispy tail. "The elephant is like a frayed rope, you fools!"
"What planet are all of you on!" the fifth blind man exclaimed, as he reached out and touched the elephant's tusk. "I've always wondered about the three of you and secretly knew you were out to get me! The elephant is dangerous. It's just like a spear and it almost stabbed me!!!"
With that, the fifth blind man began swinging at the others violently with his cane, and they all stormed off down the road, shouting as they went. Each was sure that he, and he alone, was right - and all the others were wrong. Their arguing continued to escalate, and some say that they are still arguing today.
One of the great Truths of the Universe and a secret of Spiritual Alchemy is that when we make changes inside of ourselves, our experience of reality actually changes. Just like physical objects, our mental body is subject to the forces of inertia - the tendency to stay in the same state or to vibrate in resonance with those objects closest to us. We must constantly use our own self effort to rise above mental inertia and mass consciousness in order to expand our view of life and thereby access the full spectrum of possibilities that are available to us. Mass consciousness can only affect each of us to the degree that we are receptive to its vibration. We are each responsible for our own thoughts. By using Yogic practices to refine our minds' vibrations, thoughts which are not in harmony with our higher state, such as fear, lack and worry, will not affect us.
I send you all my blessings for a glorious life!
With Great Love - Munishwarji SADGURUNATH MAHARAJ KI JAYA!
