THIS IS A REBROADCAST

I recently read statistics on teen dating violence and an article in the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/29/one-in-six-us-students-_n_1389326.html).  After reading the information and article, I was very alarmed. According to US Dept. of Justice, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Liz Claiborne Inc. teen dating violence survey (read all of the statistics at http://labmf.org/facts/statistics).

  • 1 in 5 high school girls is physically or sexually hurt by a dating partner
  • 1 in 3 teens experience some kind of abuse in their romantic relationships
  • Only 33 % of teens who have been in or known about an abusive dating relationship report having told anyone about it
  • 25% of victims say they have been isolated from family and friends
  • Many teens think this is normal
  • Teens report dating abuse via cell phones is a serious problem
  • 82% of parents whose teens were emailed or text messaged 30 times an hour were not aware of this
  • The majority of parents of teen victims are unaware of the abuse

Today I'm rebroadcasting this episode to bring to light the reality of the relationships our children are embarking upon. Please listen with your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc.  Open the dialog so our children can begin to identify and have healthy relationships in their lives.
