Young Bob Dylan in rare photos by Charles Gatewood—no thanks to Mr. Media!

Here’s what BoingBoing.net’s David Pescovitz recently wrote about photographer Charles Gatewood: “For four decades, Charles Gatewood has trained his camera on underground scenes, from the Beats and the dark alleys of 1970s Mardi Gras to modern primitives and extreme sexual fetishists. He is a photographic anthropologist at the fringes of Western culture.”

On September 1, 2009, Gatewood released A Complete Unknown, a limited edition of 61 handmade 11 x 14-inch books (plus 5 artist proofs) featuring quality reproductions of rare Bob Dylan photos, shot in Stockholm, Sweden on April 29, 1966 by the renown photographer. Most of these extraordinary photographs have never been seen or published until now.

“I was 23 years old, and had been photographing for two years. It was my first published photograph,” said Gatewood, referring to his now-iconic image ‘Bob Dylan With Cigarette.' “Dylan was in his prime. He’d just released Blonde on Blonde and his song Like a Rolling Stone was a huge hit. The picture became a best-selling poster.”

This exciting signed and numbered Bob Dylan collectible--showing Dylan at the peak of his musical career--will sell out quickly.
