Tonight’s guest is Mark McDermott, a lifelong activist working for economic, social and racial justice and peace.  He currently works as an economic justice and labor educator doing speeches and workshops across the country with a wide range of unions and community-based organizations.

Mark spent 12 years as a community organizer and labor activist before entering public service.  He has served as the Assistant Secretary of Labor and Chief Deputy Insurance Commissioner for the State of Washington and senior policy advisor to three Seattle mayors. Prior to his retirement, he served as the United States Secretary of Labor’s Regional Representative for the 8 Pacific Northwest and Northern Plains states in the Obama administration. Mark currently serves as the Education Chair of the Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action, a multi-generational organization fighting for retirement security, economic justice and a sustainable environment for everyone.
