In 1970 seventy-four percent of the middle class workforce had a high school degree and only 26 percent actually had some college experience.

Today, 39 percent of the middle class workforce have a high school degree and 61 percent have some college experience. Twenty-nine percent have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

In 1970, seventy-two percent of the U.S. jobs only required a high school degree.

In five years, 47 percent will require a college degree.

So, how does one move ahead, especially considering the costs of college?

There are five distinct ways, which are employer-based training, industry-based certifications, apprenticeships, postsecondary certificates and associate’s degrees.
