Military Consumer Protection Day is July 16, and according to a recent National Foundation for Credit Counseling survey of active duty military personnel, 77 percent of respondents have financial worries, and 55 percent feel not at all or only somewhat prepared to meet a financial emergency. The survey also finds that 60 percent of respondents have had to look outside of traditional institutions and utilize alternative, non-traditional lenders to meet their financial needs.

Stressful situations can result in poor choices, with decisions often made out of desperation. On today’s episode of Your Money, Your Matters, we will discuss how all consumers can protect their personal finances. We will talk about the importance of choosing the right financial partner, understanding the terms and conditions of a loan before you sign on the dotted line, as well as responsible use and management of credit and the importance of saving for short and long-term financial goals.

Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time. The program features radio personalities Linda Webb-Mañon and Rick Grady, Cornerstone Credit Union League; Courtney Moran, Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation, and Todd Mark, Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

Each week, the four discuss financial issues of most importance to consumers. Tune in; share your thoughts; or gain helpful advice.
