Staying on financial track isn’t easy, even in the best of circumstances.  Throw in an unexpected/unplanned emergency, like a large medical bill, and it can wreak havoc on the family budget.  According to a 2012 Aflac Workforce Report, a majority are not financially prepared for a medical emergency with 28 percent having less than $500 saved for medical expenses and 51 percent have less than $1,000. Of those surveyed, 58 percent admitted they have no financial plan to handle a large, unexpected cost, and only 8 percent said they’re financially prepared.

During the month of May, Your Money. Your Matters will continue its discussion on helping consumers get honest about their financial situation, and also offer insight into better preparing for the unexpected.  Tune in; share your thoughts; or gain helpful advice.

TCUL’s Your Money. Your Matters is a weekly show broadcasting every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to noon Central Time. The program features radio personalities Rick Grady and Linda Webb-Manon, Texas Credit Union League; Todd Mark, Consumer Credit Counseling Services, and Courtney Moran, Texas Credit Union Foundation. Each month, the four discuss financial issues of most importance to consumers.
