Jewel Woods, author of Don't Blame It on Rio: The Real Deal Behind Why Men Go to Brazil for Sex

Jewel Woods, MA and MSW, is an expert on men's issues. A 2005 New Voices Fellow, he is the founder of The Renaissance Male Project, a nonprofit advocacy and accountability organization for men and boys. He has spent over fifteen years organizing men's groups. He is currently pursuing his PH.D at Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, where he lives with his wife and children. He has appeared on television and radio programs and in such publications as Essence, the Toledo Blade, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. A self-proclaimed 'male refusenik' he is the author of Don't Blame It on Rio: The Real Deal behind Why Men Travel to Brazil for Sex. Jewel Woods is an author and a gender analyst whose views on men and boys in American society have been featured on TV, national news & radio talk programs such as The Michael Baisden Show, The Michael Eric Dyson Show, The Bev Smith Show, The Joe Madison Show; and publications such as Essence Magazine, Ebony Magazine, TheRoot,The Black Commentator. Working towards earning a PhD in Social Work with a specialization in men's issues, Jewel is the founder and executive director of The Renaissance Male Project, Inc. a non-profit advocacy and accountability organization for men and boys. He possesses extensive field training in a male accountability and specialized training in cultural competency. He is a past advisory board member of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC) University of Michigan, Founder/Organizer of the Men in Social Work (M.S.W.) Discussion Group and the director of project Men Overcoming Violence through Empowerment (MOVE).
