The causes of diabetes are not clear. The factor responsible for diabetes are known as risk factors, an individual must overcome them to prevent diabetes.

Hereditary is one of the causes of diabetes. Parents passes diabetes to their children. Parents who are diabetic should control their blood sugar level to control diabetes and not passing the disease to their children. About 12 percent of the people who are diabetic are due to hereditary reasons.

Obesity is one of the major causes of diabetes. People who are overweight which is not usual as compared with height of an individual is an important factor for diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is divided into two types majorly. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is normally seen in young adults and teenagers. In type 1 diabetes insulin is a must dose. So it is called by the names early onset diabetes or insulin dependent diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is more prone to people who are above 40 years age and plus. Obesity is the major reason for type 2 diabetes. It is also known by the names adult onset diabetes mellitus or insulin independent diabetes mellitus. Since insulin is not a must dose here.

Diet plays an important role. Diet should be well balanced in nutrition. There should be cut down in intake of carbohydrates, fats, proteins. In place of simple carbohydrates, complex carbohydrates need to be taken as they do not easily get converted to glucose. Diabetic people need to take food content rich in fiber. Examples of food content rich in fiber are carrot, broccoli, beans, peas, apple, apricot, dates, raisins.

Smoking is dangerous for diabetes. Smoking not only increase diabetes but also can be the main major cause for diabetes. People who are diabetic need to stop smoking.

Diagnosis of diabetes is generally done by two tests. Urine and blood tests. Blood test is done in three different ways in all the three ways the blood glucose level is higher and above normal expected range. And urine test shows samples of glucoses in urine.

Physical activities is must of diabetic people as stagnated or sedentary kind of life leads to diabetes. Exercises like running, skipping, and swimming are proved to good for diabetic persons.
