MJJTalk Our Show's Goal: Numerous books have been written about politics in this country covering a wide variety of topics in order to educate people about how the political system works in this country. They cover—some in great detail—the facts and intricacies of our political system—for example, pivotal legislation passed pertaining to how elections are run and the complex set of rules regarding different levels of government—some even going so far as to give analysis of more abstract topics touching on psychological angles such as observed trends in personal political views among voters of various political affiliations. All of this information, while essential to a complete understanding of how our political process works today does not provide the full picture of the political scene in this country. Here at Mjjtalk, we see the real world of politics in this country today through an even deeper lense. As all three of us have grown up following politics on the internet and on TV as well as learning about the issues in books and newspapers, we’ve also learned so much about politics from those people around us, just like the vast majority of voters today. However, not only do we learn information from our parents and peers, who are perhaps angry or excited about a particular decision or a given political issue, we observe their reactionary behavior and the emotional impact of political developments on them in real time. It is through this outlet that we have been given great insight into the realities of the political culture of the United States today. The problem: emotion is leading to gridlock and dependent thinking as it perpetuates itself even more/spreads like wildfire Gridlock: because of emotion people more closed minded and therefore simply disagree instead of finding solutions, then elect politicians who cater to the strong, closed stances of the electorate and won’t negotiate with each other in Washington
