Maintaining a consistent standard of evidence is critical to the success and integrity of any investigation. Too often, however, modern paranormal investigations discard the objective standards of evidence to adopt a 19th century approach of faith and assumption rather than logic and rationality. In my opinion, this lack of critical thought has damaged the credibility of paranormal researchers and their investigations by perpetuating stereotypes and delusions that only serve to create further misconceptions in the public arena. Outdated ideologies and methods go unchallenged and continue to dominate the discussion in many paranormal groups. Television shows and news appearances often reinforce these unfounded beliefs and rely on unproven premises to reach equally unproven conclusions. This circular logic serves no good purpose and renders the results of these investigations useless for future researchers.
