Many have done so without any real analysis of why they would readily jump to the defense of a black male who had no interest in them at all. But why? This is a very serious question that most black women who are being reactionary in their responseto this latest situation invoving an interview Gayle King conducted with Lisa Leslie, are not aware of. Their responses all over social media are in fact, self destructive. I will examine the overall scope of this situation, put it in a historical context and give a more in depth and historical explanation as to why Gayle King was targeted by the black patriarchy.  00:47:00Progressive Black Thinkers Radionoblack women, feminism, black feminism, kobe bryant, rapeMany black women during then aftermath of the death of Kobe Bryant have found themselves chiming in with their own oppressors. From the women who hit her son and was defined with a narrative by national, primarily white media to the black women who were standing on the frontines in protests in front of police for black male victims of violence but are noticeably absent around protests around black women who are victimized as well. This episode will explore the reason why black women are consistently presented in a very narrowly defined way and will open up a discussion on why they are expected to accept pain as a norm and regular part of their existence in contrast to other races of women. There have been many protests and a huge petition to stop the show yet VH1 has still gone forward with its airing. The practice has been around since slavery and is so ingrained into black parents, that it isn't viewed as something that is problematic but rather a necessary component to parenting. In her Book Beating Black Kids, author Asadah Kirkland, discusses why black parents have got to change their thinking about this tradition and gives effective alternatives for parents who may be uninformed about how to be effective at parenting in a way that doesn't involve corporal punishment. Most have never read a book about it or even understand its history. The word itself has been used as a weapon against black women as a way of insulting them and making them feel as if they are not loyal to the race if they define themselves as feminists. The images of a group of anti male, masculine type, women who are all lesbians, springs to mind whenever the word feminism is brought up. Black women especially, have been conditioned to believe that the mythology around the word feminism makes it something they should refuse to be associated with. They havve bought into the stigmatization of the word itself, wtihout ever having even read one book about it. Black males are even worse, as they will continue to spread lies about this area of activism and any correct information about it is immediately dismissed as being "anti-black". This episode will explore the history of black feminism, how it came about, what it really is and why there is a fear of it. It will serve to inform and dispel the myths associated with black feminism and give one an insight into why it is more vital than ever to ensure that black women and men work to further its aims. 02:00:00Progressive Black Thinkers Radionoblack history, black feminism, black community, politics, black womenThere are tons of discussions about feminism but very few black people actually know what it is about.
