All this curiosity resulted in her obtaining a university degree in computer science.
Sandra founded TechCoachForCoaches.com 3 years ago. She was attending a workshop for coaches when she was approached by participants to provide them with her technology expertise, and to assist them in building their businesses easily using technology. She is fascinated by internet marketing, search engine optimization and WordPress. Currently, she is putting together her first book to be released in the Spring/Summer of 2008. For fun Sandra takes things to the extreme. She enjoys white water rafting, white water kayaking, river boarding, snorkelling, jet skiing, hiking, playing soccer and anything else that involves adventure and gets her away from technology, temporarily of course.

Tell us about your mission in life, and how your body of work and/or experiences will impact our audience.
My mission in life is to help women lead more integrated lives and use their businesses to do more than just look at the bottom line. Historically women have struggled with doing work that pays the bills, but ignores more important issues, or doing work that matters, but not necessarily financially feasible. What we do is show them how to combine business skill with passion to help them create lives worth living and legacies worth leaving.
What kinds of people do you make the most difference for?
We work with women solely who have been in business from zero to five years. They typically fall into three categories – having a concept yet to be explored, within the first 12-18 months of operating a business (what you and I would consider to be a true startup), or in a growth or transition phase – three to five years.
What do you do that is the most effective?
Helping women launch, grow and give back. Giving back is an essential part of everything we do. When you launch or grow a business with giving in mind, the community has vested interest in your success because you were interested in theirs. Profitability and giving need not be mutually exclusive. The two actually go hand in hand besides being desperately needed in times like this. People are no longer interested in companies that are so concerned with making a profit, they deny everything else. They also know that the government is not the answer to everything that ails them. If we do not help each other, who will?
5) How does your story begin?
In 2000 my husband and I moved to the East Coast. Within six months a restructuring at his company eliminated his position and the dot com I was with went belly up. We quickly went from nice income to no income and on top of that I was pregnant with baby #3. We soon lost our only means of transportation and were homeless, but God kept our family together through it all. When we stayed in hotels, we took our computer out of storage and I started looking for anything I could do that would give us some income. I soon ran across a legitimate company and recruited over 1,000 others to work from home, supervising my own team of 150 and their sub-teams. Because it was commission only, it did not add up to a lot, but it definitely helped. Bryan soon gained stable employment and we moved into a home of our own. I had been in telecomm off and on since 1987 so I went back to work also. Bryan’s job required travel and mandatory overtime kicked in at mine. The last straw was when his flight got cancelled and I worked what turned into a twelve hour shift. We now had four children. When he made it home the next day, we both agreed something had to change so I turned in my resignation and never looked back.
I had helped people build businesses previously, but decided that if I did it again, things would have to be different. It was during this same time that I learned of the situation in Sudan and other challenges women were facing around the world including human trafficking, poverty, and others. This helped me draft the plan for Her Startup – a company that would help women launch and grow businesses that would do more than just look at the bottom line, but give back and make an impact on the world around them.

Called To Be a Kingdom Connector
By Genikwa Williams
Detroit inspired a lot of dreamers besides Berry Gordy, founder of Motown. Also born and raised in the Motor City during the 1960s, Pam Perry—one of the nation’s foremost public relations and marketing professionals—learned at a very young age about the necessity and power of networking in fulfilling a dream.
An only child, Pam quickly sought out other neighborhood children as playmates. Her relationship with the kids next door connected Pam with their father, the Rev. Dr. Joseph R. Jordan. Pastor of Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church in the Detroit suburb of Hamtramck, Rev. Jordan’s godly and fatherly influence would help shape the course of Pam’s life. He and his family took Pam to church with them every Sunday.
“You can say I kinda grew up a vicarious ‘P.K.’ (pastor’s kid),” Pam joked. “I had first-hand knowledge of how ministries worked because I was there so often.”
At the church, Pam clearly demonstrated a knack for spreading good news.
“My gift was not in ushering, singing, or teaching. I had a real heart to just promote and tell everyone about special events at the church,” she said. Rev. Jordan, she recalls, even told her that she was “doing PR for Jesus.”
That distinction stuck and today, the name “Pam Perry” is practically synonymous with publicity in the Christian community.
After graduating Cass Tech High School, Pam studied advertising and public relations in the journalism school at Wayne State University, both in Detroit. Her career began in secular media and PR agencies, where she worked with major clients like McDonald’s and Ford. After more than a dozen years in the business, Pam felt God calling her aside to put her skills to work for His purposes—just as her childhood pastor predicted all those years ago. She then moved into nonprofits, doing fund development and public relations for organizations like Joy of Jesus and The Salvation Army.
Seeing the need to help the burgeoning African American Christian authors and following her passion for books, Pam started Ministry Marketing Solutions, Inc. in 2000. The public relations consulting and marketing firm caters to African American Christian authors and ministries. See www.MinistryMarketingSolutions.com. Pam has helped dozens of publishing houses by running hundreds of book publicity campaigns through her company. Her clientele includes major publishers plus authors like Bishop T.D. Jakes, Pastor Bill Winston, Dr. Suzan Johnson Cook, and best-selling Christian fiction author Kim Brooks and Marilynn Griffith.
A prolific writer herself, Pam wrote and published a booklet with 115 PR tips for churches and ministries. She has also penned articles and columns for numerous Christian publications, including Keeping Family First, Gospel Today, The Detroit News, The Michigan Chronicle, , CBA Marketplace and The Christian Communicator.
Dubbed “The PR Coach,” Pam hosts seminars on book publicity and an Internet radio broadcast, provides PR counsel to ministries nationwide, and trains church marketing staffs. She is also president and founder of the Detroit chapter of American Christian Writers Association and The Chocolate Pages Network (www.ChocolatePagesNetwork.com).
Considered to be one of the hardest-working women in her field, Pam is a past winner of the “One to Watch” Award from the American Women in Radio and TV-Detroit Chapter, and jointly won an Emmy for her work as a producer on the television show, “The Edge with Jeffrey Miller.”
Pam is an active member of Life Changers Christian Center in Lansing, under pastors Dr. James and Stacia Pierce. She resides in Farmington with her husband Marc Perry and their 11-year-old daughter.
